Scuba Diving around Oban

Scotland offers some fantastic, if challenging, dive sites. In the area around Oban you can combine fantastic overland and undersea scenery in a scuba diving trip to one of Scotland's sea lochs.

  • The Falls of Lora is just one of the great dive sites in Loch Etive, near Oban. With a maximum depth of 130 metres and strong currents this is a dive for the more experienced scuba diver. Although it can be done as a shore dive, boat cover is strongly recommended. The best time to dive is in the winter, when an influx of fresh water improves visibility. Starfish, hermit crabs and lobsters proliferate among the rocks here and you can find boreholes where fish 'bore holes' in the rocks to live in. It is advisable to do this dive with a local dive operator and be experienced in drift dives, as strong currents can take over your navigation and whisk you away.
